PGA Tour chief Jay Monahan raked in $23 million in compensation last year, includes $2.5 million in retirement benefits: Reports

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan reportedly earned $23 million in compensation last year, up from $18.6 million the previous year. The sum includes a $1.88 million base salary, $12.1 million in bonuses, $2.5 million in retirement benefits, and $6.7 million in long-term incentive compensation.

According to Sportico's latest report, PGA Tour Inc. generated $1.82 billion in revenue in 2023, including the six months before announcing its merger with LIV Golf. Additionally, the non-profit entity earned $2.52 billion from the sale of non-inventory assets, bringing the total yearly gross to $4.33 billion.

While Tour's legal expenses in 2022 totaled $21 million, last year, it spent $18.7 million. According to Jay Monahan, the legal fees were one of the major reasons for settling the legal battle with LIV Golf. Although he had anticipated legal fees to surge to $50 million, both circuits thankfully called a truce in June last year.

For the uninitiated, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf shocked the world in June 2023 by announcing their merger to form a new entity, PGA Tour Enterprises. However, both parties have yet to come to an agreement and are still negotiating the terms.
