The PGA Tour sent a four-page memo to the players defining the new criteria for FedEx points and qualification for the designated events beginning in 2024.
The officials announced eight additional limited-field designated events for the upcoming season earlier this year and have now finally unveiled the qualification criteria for them.
For the 2024 season, 16 designated events have been added to the schedule, including four major tournaments, The Players, FedEx Cup (3), and an additional eight events.
The PGA Tour mentioned seven basic eligibility criteria to qualify for the designated event, which includes qualification through FedEx points and OWGR.
Designated event eligibility
- Top 50 prior year FedEx Cup through Playoffs
- Top 10 available and not otherwise exempt current year FedEx Cup
- Prior year fall FedEx Cup list through West Coast
- Top 5 available and not otherwise exempt FedEx Cup points earners through "swing" of full-field events
- Current year tournament winners (Full FedEx Cup points events)
- Top 30 OWGR (PGA Tour members)
- Four Sponsor Exemptions (PGA Tour members)
Earning FedEx Cup points
The PGA Tour also revealed a new criteria for earning FedEx Cup points. It is important to note that extra points will be given to players winning the designated events. Here is the FedEx Cup points distribution for golfers for the 2024 season:
- 750 points to winners of Players and Majors
- 700 points to winners of designated events
- 500 points to winners of regular full-field events
- 300 points to winners of opposite events
