PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim joked about Scottie Scheffler's success rate following his transition to fatherhood. He wrote that after seeing the World No. 1 golfer's wins since becoming a father, he was also saving his wins for his future child.
Scottie Scheffler fired a low 63 on Sunday, December 8, to win the Hero World Challenge for the second straight year. He aggregated at 25-under to post a six-stroke win over Tom Kim and claim his eighth title of the season.
Claire Rogers of Golf magazine shared an interesting stat about Scheffler's success post his son Bennett's birth. For the uninitiated, Scheffler and his wife Meredith became parents to Bennett on May 8 this year.
"Bennett Scheffler is seven months old and his dad has won five times in his lifetime," she wrote.
Reacting to the incredible stat, Kim gave a hilarious response.
For the uninitiated, Kim has won just once in his career, and that victory came six years ago at the John Deere Classic. Only time will tell if he can also turn his fortunes around after becoming a dad.
"Being a dad has been a lot of fun" - Scottie Scheffler opens up about his fatherhood experience
During the winner's press conference at the Hero World Challenge, Scottie Scheffler spoke about his experience with his son Bennett.
"Being a dad has been a lot of fun," he said. "It's really cool watching my little guy develop and it's been a ton of fun for Meredith and me. He's like our little buddy, he comes with us everywhere. He's around this week and it's been a lot of fun. We've had some pretty cool memories with little man around"
Since Bennett's birth, Scheffler has won the Memorial Tournament, the Travelers Championship, and the Tour Championship on the PGA Tour. He also claimed the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. This week's Hero World Challenge marked his fifth win since May.
Overall, Scheffler tied for the most wins in a year with his eighth win of 2024. Before him, only Tiger Woods (2000) and Vijay Singh (2004) had achieved this feat. He competed in 21 events this year and the eight wins mean he finished with a 42.9 win percentage.
Besides, Scheffler is only the third player after Woods (2006-2007) and Viktor Hovland (2021-2022) to defend their title at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.
