Michael S. Kim has shared his perspective on Olympic finishes in golf compared to other sports. He said that even a finish in the top 10 is an achievement for golfers.
Kim's perspective emerged from his interaction on X with tennis player Mardy Fish. In a post on X, Fish asked his followers if a bronze medal is better than a silver medal. He clarified that he was asking for himself.
Michael S. Kim commented on the post and wrote:
"Bronze medalists are often happier than silver medalists so you can def make that argument"
Mardy Fish replied to Kim and explained that he won a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics. He said that he lost the gold medal match and won silver and the player who won the match between the 3rd and 4th position earned the bronze.
Fish lost to Chilean player Nicolás Massú in the final match in five sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6). Kim further replied to Fish and also shared his perspective about golf. He said:
"Ah….haha are you kidding? I'm a golfer which means even top 10s are amazing for us let alone silver. I’m sure the gold medalist just got lucky."
Michael S. Kim hasn't qualified for the 2024 Olympics. For Team USA, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Wyndham Clark will be competing at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
