PGA Tour veteran predicts Tiger Woods will play ‘double digit’ tournaments next year – “We’re gonna see a ton more”

Tiger Woods played his fifth tournament and fourth Major of the year at the 2024 Open Championship. The 15-time Major Champion missed the cut by eight shots.

Taylor Zarzour discussed Tiger Woods' future with the PGA Tour veteran Brendon de Jonge on Open Radio on SiriusXM. Zarzour said:

"I don't think anyone was surprised that he struggled given how little golf he's able to play in 2024. Tiger shot 79 yesterday, 77 today, but Tiger did say that his health is improving which makes him believe he should be able to play more golf next year."

After scoring a dismal 8-over 79, Woods scored 6-over 77 in the second round of the tournament. He scored one birdie, five bogeys, and a double bogey in the round. De Jonge agreed with Zarzour and said (via The Open Radio on SiriusXM):

"Everything I've heard from Tiger this week lends me to believe that we're gonna see Tiger play. I wouldn't be surprised if it's in double-digit tournaments next year, maybe 10, maybe 12 events. I think he's feeling strong enough right now with the health in his right leg that we're gonna see a ton more of Tiger Woods next year."

The missed cut at The Open Championship is Woods' third consecutive missed cut in a Major. The former World No.1 earlier missed the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship and 2024 US Open.

Tiger Woods said that he has 'physically gotten better'

Tiger Woods was playing his 23rd Open Championship tournament. After a car crash in 2021, Woods has participated in fewer tournaments than he did before, to give himself time to recover from his leg injuries. He has played only in five tournaments in 2021, including the four Majors.

Before the Open Championship 2024, Woods gave a health update while talking to SiriusXM's Taylor Zarzour. Woods said:

"I think as the season has gone on, I've physically gotten better. Now, my game is a different story. It's still not quite as sharp as I'd like to have it just because I just haven't played that much. Once I start playing a little bit more, I'll be able to do that but a lot of that stems from the training."

Woods said that he has been working hard in the gym and training to improve his body. He further said his practice sessions have become longer and better. He acknowledged that he needed to play better rounds on the golf course. Woods also said that he has made some mistakes mentally in the last three Majors.

Woods missed the Friday cut at the Open Championship 2024 but he has a terrific record at the tournament, having won the tournament thrice. His first victory came in 2000 at St. Andrews where he won in a three-hole playoff by one stroke against Bob May. His second win came in 2005 again at St. Andrews where he won by five strokes over Colin Montgomerie. His third win came at Royal Liverpool in 2005 where he won by two strokes over Chris DiMarco.
