Nelly Korda has had a dream run in the 2024 season. She won seven tournaments this year, including the Chevron Championship. Korda comes from a family of athletes. His parents, Petr Korda and Regina Rajchrtova, are former tennis players. Her elder sister is a golf player, while her younger brother is a professional tennis player.
Korda, 26, turned professional in 2017 and has played more than 100 tournaments on the LPGA Tour since then. However, her debut came at the age of 14 at the 2013 US Women's Open, which was held at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
Ahead of the debut, her elder sister Jessica interviewed the young Nelly on Golfweek. In the interview, Jessica explained that it was her sixth appearance at the tournament while it was her sister's first. She asked her sister about what she was looking forward to the most at the tournament. Nelly joked:
"Having my locker next to you."
Jessica playfully calls Nelly "a suck-up" and asks her again. Nelly said:
"Just playing with the best players in the world. It's a great opportunity, and I just can't wait."
Jessica then asked Nelly Korda if she was excited about her Pro-Am pairings with Michelle and Brittany Lincicome. Korda said:
"Oh my God, I'm like freaking out right here."
Talking about the importance of the tournament, Korda said:
"The US Women's Open means so much to me because, for the past five years, I've been there every single year watching my sister outside the ropes. So finally, this year, I get to be inside the ropes. I get to have my locker right next to her, so it should be fun."
Nelly Korda qualified for the tournament in West Palm at Banyan Lakes Country Club. She tied for 64th with the likes of Moira Dunn and Becky Morgan at the tournament. She scored 73, 77, 79 and 81 in the four rounds to score 22-over 310.
Meanwhile, Jessica finished tied for seventh after finishing with a score of 2-over 290. She posted rounds of 70, 71, 76 and 73.
