At the end of the month, the best golfers from America and the rest of the world (sans Europe) will face off once more in the Presidents Cup. It's one of the top international and team events in golf.

It's one of the rare opportunities for golfers to be able to represent their country and try to bring glory to it. How has that worked out for each side in the past?

Analyzing past winners of Presidents Cup

The United States is the reigning champion. They defeated the international side by a score of 17.5 to 12.5 in 2022. They were captained by Davis Love III and had Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Tony Finau.

In 2019, the Americans staged an impressive and furious comeback to win once again. Tiger Woods served as captain. He led Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, and others to the win.

The US won in 2017, when Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and George Bush were in attendance. They outscored the international team 19-11. Steve Stricker captained a team of Johnson, Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Rickie Fowler among others.

In 2015, the United States earned a walk-off victory by securing the winning point on the final hole. Jay Haas was the captain for this iconic event. Current captain Jim Furyk was on the team with Bubba Watson, Zach Johnson, and others.

Team USA also won in 2013, where they earned an 18-5-15.5 win. Fred Couples captained a team made up of Woods, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, and Webb Simpson.

In 2011, Couples led the American side while LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman headed up the international side, which couldn't break through with a win. In 2009, Woods went 5-0-0 as a player for the Americans, who earned a 19.5-14.5 win.

In 2007, the same score and winner occurred as in 2009. The Americans kept their winning ways behind Jack Nicklaus, who defeated Gary Player's international team. Woods, Furyk, Mickelson, Stricker, and Stewart Cink made up some of the players on the roster.

Nicklaus was also the captain in 2005, and he was also the winner that year. The event was at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, which is where this month's Solheim Cup will be held. His team had Woods, Mickelson, Kenny Perry, Love III, and Chris DiMarco.

The 2003 tournament ended in a 17-17 tie, so neither side took home the Presidents Cup. That is one of just two non-wins for the Americans, who have won every year besides 2003 and 1998.

Winners:

  • 2022, USA
  • 2019, USA
  • 2017, USA
  • 2015, USA
  • 2013, USA
  • 2011, USA
  • 2009, USA
  • 2007, USA
  • 2005, USA
  • 2003, Tie

The Americans have dominated this competition all-time and recently. Will they continue their Presidents Cup winning ways with Furyk at the helm and players like Scheffler and Wyndham Clark on the team?
