Phil Mickelson, one of the greatest golfers of his era and a fan favorite at Torrey Pines, fired up Wesley Bryan ahead of the final round at the Farmers Insurance Open. The final round of the tournament will be held on Saturday, January 25.
Bryan is currently tied for eighth with an aggregate score of 4-under 212. He sought Mickelson's wisdom on X with a simple request:
"Hey @PhilMickelson, I'm trying to add to this total this weekend at one of your favorite places. Do you have any advice for me?"
Phil Mickelson didn't shy away from advising the World No. 224 and responded:
"67 tomorrow should be a playoff. 66 wins outright. Go shoot a number tomorrow my man. Pulling for you."
Bryan is currently five shots behind Harris English who is at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 9-under 207. Andrew Novak is positioned second with 8-under while Aldrich Potgieter is third with 7-under.
Wesley Bryan has been in contention at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open from the first round. He scored 4-under 68 in the first round which comprised an eagle and three birdies against a bogey. In the second round, despite tough windy conditions, he managed 1-over 73 in the round.
He scored 1-under 71 in the third round with three birdies against two bogeys. Talking about his round, he wrote on X:
"Wild day. I hit it terrible. Avoided disaster all day. Tomorrow is gunna be fun"
Bryan, who turned professional in 2010, only has one PGA Tour victory so far in his career. He'd look to win his second PGA Tour Title at the Torrey Pines Golf Course on Saturday when he tees off with Ricky Castillo and Kris Ventura at 1:38 p.m. ET in the Farmers Insurance Open finale.
A look at Phil Mickelson's record at the Torrey Pines Golf Course
Phil Mickelson was born in San Diego, California in 1970 and has a great record at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. At the Farmers Insurance Open (formerly the Buick Invitational), the 45-time PGA Tour winner has won three times.
Mickelson's first win as a professional came at the Farmers Insurance Open in 1993. He finished with a score of 278 (−10) and won the tournament by four strokes over Dave Rummells.
His second victory came in 2000 when he ended Tiger Woods' streak of six consecutive PGA Tour wins. He won the tournament by four strokes over Tiger Woods and Shigeki Maruyama at Torrey Pines. Mickelson's third and last victory came in 2001 in the playoffs against Davis Love III and Frank Lickliter. He won the tournament with a double-bogey on the third extra hole.
Other than the Farmers Insurance Open, he has also competed in the course in the 2008 and 2021 US Open. In 2008, Mickelson tied for 18th while in 2021, he tied for 62nd.
