“Rain man of golf”; “lol what in the world?” – Fans in awe as ‘nerd’ Bryson DeChambeau confesses to putting his golf balls in salt

Bryson DeChambeau has an interesting way of checking the balance of his golf balls. He admitted that he puts them in an Epsom salt solution to make sure they are perfectly in balance.

Bryson DeChambeau has put up a great show at the US Open 2024 so far, as he is leading the field by three strokes after 54 holes. He fired a low 67 on Saturday, June 15, to aggregate at 7-under and take the lead for the first time this week at Pinehurst No. 2.

Following his round, Bryson DeChambeau was asked about his unique technique of checking the balls' balance. He admitted that he used to put his golf balls in Epsom salt solution and make them float to ensure their balance.

"There was a big thing back in the day where golf balls are out of balance, and it's just because of the manufacturing process," he explained. "There's always going to be an error, especially when it's a sphere and there's dimples on the edges. You can't perfectly get it in the center.

"So what I'm doing is finding pretty much the out-of-balanceness of it, how much out of balance it is. Heavy slide floats to the bottom, and then we mark the top with a dot to make sure it's always rolling over itself," he added.

Bryson DeChamebeau will tee off on Sunday, June 16, at 2:21 pm ET for the final round of the US Open. He and Matthieu Pavon will be the last pair to begin the fourth round.

The final round of the US Open will tee off on Sunday at 7:30 am ET, and Seonghyeon Kim and Gunnar Broin will tee off from the first hole.

After three days of golf at Pinehurst, Bryson DeChambeau has a three-shot lead over Pavon, Patrick Cantlay, and Rory McIlroy. He has a solid chance of winning his second US Open in five years. For the uninitiated, the 2020 US Open is his only win so far.
