Caleb Surratt married his long-time girlfriend Kayla on November 22, 2024. The LIV Golf star played the 2024 Saudi International this week and spoke out about his dilemma in choosing a ball marker for the event.
The newlyweds were not able to go on a honeymoon as the LIV Golf star had to take on the challenging Riyadh Golf Club just a few days after the wedding ceremony. During a tournament dinner on Thursday, Surratt asked his fellow competitors whether they thought using his wedding ring as a ball marker was a good idea.
The table unanimously said no to the idea. Surratt said that he would not lose it as he would take it off his ring finger, mark his ball, and put it back on his hand afterward. However, after some time spent pondering the decision, he decided not to use his wedding ring.
Surratt said (via LIV Golf):
"I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t. You would never lose it. I’d take it off my ring finger on the tee, put it on the green every hole, and put it back on my hand after the round. But I’m bound to lose it. I lose everything.”
According to the press release from LIV Golf, he was sad that his wife Kayla could not be with him in Riyadh. But Surratt felt encouraged knowing that he could go back home to his wife.
"Honestly, it’s taken a lot of stress off and allowed me to be as free as possible. I know no matter how I play, she’s going to be there for me when I get back," Caleb Surratt said.
Caleb Surratt expresses his gratitude for Jon Rahm at the 2024 Saudi International
In January 2024, Caleb Surratt joined LIV Golf as a part of Jon Rahm's Legion XIII team. He was signed to the team at just 19 years of age and received the news as he was taking his final exams at the University of Tennessee.
He made his first appearance as a professional golfer at the LIV Golf Invitational in Mayakoba in February. Following the conclusion of the 2024 Saudi International, the former collegiate golfer expressed his gratitude for his captain Rahm in shaping his career.
"He’s really been on my side. Couldn’t be more thankful to him. I'm almost in tears thinking about it, how much he’s helped me out. As much as I tell myself and he tells me I earned my spot on the team through my play in amateur and college golf, it definitely feels like he’s been one to put me on his shoulders a little bit," Caleb Surratt said via LIV Golf.
Surratt shot his career-best score of 10-under par 61 this week and also tied the Riyadh Golf Club's course record for a round. The Walker Cup star ended the event tied for second place with Cameron Smith with an overall score of 21-under and went home with a $412,500 paycheck.
