As per reports, Rickie Fowler has decided to participate in the Genesis Invitational after much consideration. NUCLR GOLF, a popular golf activity tracking handle, tweeted about the news.
"Rickie Fowler has committed to the Genesis Invitational after debating the move."
Fowler was last seen at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he finished in a tied 11th. He shot the final round at par and concluded the tournament with an aggregate of 5-under, an 8-stroke difference from winner Max Homa.
Prior to this news, RickieLegion, an account dedicated to tracking Fowler's Tour activities, gave the possible schedule of the 34-year-old's. If things go as planned, he will be playing straight for the next five weeks, starting with the WM Phoenix Open.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open will start on February 9 at the TPC Scottsdale - Stadium Course. It is one of the 17 designated PGA Tour events with an elevated purse size of $20 million. The WM Phoenix Open will be happening in the same week as the Super Bowl and the same vicinity as well.
After WM Phoenix, the Genesis Invitational will take place from February 16 to 19 at Riviera Golf Course in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. Rickie's next scheduled event is the Honda Classic at Palm Beach Country. The Florida event will start on February 20, immediately after the Genesis Invitational.
Next comes the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which is scheduled for the first week of March at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge. Rickie is yet to commit to the API. The final event on the list is Players with a purse size of $25 million, the highest among all elevated PGA Tour events.
It should be noted that PGA Tour players are only allowed to skip one of these elevated tournaments, courtesy of the new rulings for the new season to have more top players competing in these events.
"Now it’s nice to be back on the road" - Rickie Fowler on the new golf season
The last few years for Rickie Fowler have been disappointing on the PGA Tour. He hasn't won a title since 2019's Waste Management Phoenix Open. However, he has begun his new season with some positives from last season.
The 34-year-old brought back his former swing coach Butch Harmon and the improvements reflected in his game as well. The former Players champion had a T6 finish at the Fortinet Championship and ended up as a tied runner-up at Zozo last fall.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Rickie stated that he was excited for this year with some good performances in the fall of 2022.
"I’m definitely excited for this year," said Fowler to SI. "It was nice to have a few good events in the fall. I had a lot of time off to be at home, get some work in, and spend time with the family. Now it’s nice to be back on the road."
Last week, Fowler ended the Farmers Insurance Open with a T-11 finish, helping him break into the top 100 in the OWGR for the first time since January 2022.
