Rory McIlroy crashed out of the 2023 Masters after missing the cut on Day 2 of the tournament. He shot the second round of 5-over to miss the cutline, which is expected to be at 2-over.
After the conclusion of Round 2, McIlroy refused to talk to the media about his game.
Prior to this Masters week, fans were hoping that Rory's wait for the Masters win would end this year. The Irishman was looking to complete his Career Grand Slam to join the elite list of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.
The former World No. 1 carded the first round at even-par, which included five birdies, three bogeys, and a double bogey. His second day went even worse when he put in a score of 5-over 77 at the Augusta National. This was his highest single-round score since Day 3 of the 2016 Masters.
The 33-year-old kept on losing strokes in the second round and could only make birdies on the 13th and 15th holes. He holed seven bogeys on Friday.
After a drop in form and struggles with his driver, Rory switched to TaylorMade Sim 1 and also started using a Scotty Cameron Newport-style putter. The changes seemed to work as he finished second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and also finished third at the WGC-Dell Technologies.
Besides Rory, the other major names who failed to make it to the weekend at the Augusta National include Kurt Kitayama, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, and 2017 champion Sergio Garcia.
2023 Masters Leaderboard explored after Day 2
Brooks Koepka leads the 2023 Masters after two at the conclusion of Day 2 at the Augusta National. He shot a second round of 5-under 67 on Friday to aggregate at 12-under after two rounds.
The second day at the Augusta National was affected by the weather and many players were unable to complete their second round. Rahm, who could only play half the holes, trails Koepka by three strokes and has a good chance of catching him.
Amateur Sam Bennett is the most impressive youngster at the 2023 Masters as he sits in third place after 36 holes in his first outing here. He carded a 4-under 68 on both days.
