Rory McIlroy, a 35-year-old golfer from Northern Ireland, finished as a runner-up at the US Open 2024 held from June 13 to June 16. McIlroy carded 65, 72, 69, and 69 in the four rounds of the tournament held at Pinehurst No.2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The victory saw McIlroy jump one spot from 3rd to 2nd on the Official World Golf Rankings. He surpassed Xander Schauffele, who fell from 2nd to 3rd place. McIlroy won $2.322 million of the total $21.5 million doled out as prize money for the tournament. He also won 400 FedExCup points.

The winner of the tournament Bryson DeChambeau jumped 28 spots from 38th to 10th in the OWGR rankings. He also received an exemption for the 10 next US Open tournaments along with an exemption from 5 next events of the other three Majors.

Ludvig Aberg's T12 finish at the tournament saw him climb to T4, the first time in the top 5 in his career. Tony Finau who finished tied at T3 with Patrick Cantlay jumped 9 spots to 19th.

A 7-spot leap was made by Thomas Detry who finished T14 with Collin Morikawa at the 124th US Open. A T9 finish by Coney Conners saw him finish jump from 46th to 37th, a jump of 9 spots. Taylor Pendrith finished as T16 and 9 spots to 56th position.

Robert MacIntyre, 2024 RBC Canadian Open champion fell four spots after missing the cut. Kurt Kitayama also slipped from 54th to 60th in the OWGR rankings.
