Keegan Bradley was recently chosen to be the captain as the 2025 Ryder Cup US Team captain, and Rory McIlroy is in disbelief. Bradley will play in the 2025 edition of the tournament as one of the youngest captains.

The 2023 Ryder Cup was won by the European team, which took a huge margin of victory over Team USA, 16.5-11.5. The pressure will be on Bradley and team USA to perform at the 2025 edition which will take place at Bethpage Black.

After Rory McIlroy's first round at the 2024 Scottish Open, he answered a few questions about Keegan Bradley's selection as the captain. McIlroy talked about hearing the news from Luke Donald. In the post-round interview, McIlroy said (via AsapSports):

"Yeah, definitely I think a surprise for everyone. We had dinner in London on Sunday night with Luke, and he told us then... I think disbelief, probably. I think Keegan was probably in disbelief, at some point, too, but certainly an interesting pick."

Rory McIlroy spoke about Keegan Bradley's passion for the Ryder Cup. He said that the US team will have a fresh take on the biennial tournament.

"The youngest captain since Arnold Palmer I think was a playing captain as 34. But he knows Bethpage very well. He went to university in the area. He's obviously very passionate about the Ryder Cup," Mcllroy said.

Meanwhile, Luke Donald will continue as captain of the European team for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy finds form again after an impressive first round of 65 at the 2024 Scottish Open

Rory McIlroy's first round at the 2024 Scottish Open saw him shoot a 5 under 65. After his heartbreaking loss at the US Open, McIlroy has found his form as he comes back from a short break. Speaking about how his first round went, McIlroy said via Sports Illustrated:

“Obviously the last time I played, I played well. I didn't get the result I wanted but I've still got a lot of confidence in my game. I went time-out there today, shot a solid score. A couple I would have liked to hole coming in and be a few shots lower but overall great start to the tournament. Yeah, I sort of picked up where I left off.”

The Scottish Open comes just one week ahead of the final Major tournament of the year, the Open Championship. McIlroy has been in search of his first Major win in a decade, and he will hope to follow up his runner-up finish at the US Open with a win at the Open.

After the Open Championship, McIlroy will be teeing if off at the 2024 Olympics, where Xander Schauffele is the defending champion.
