Rory McIlroy locked in on the Irish Open, says it would be ‘one of the biggest wins’ after a ‘busy year’

After finishing tied for ninth in the FedExCup standings, Rory McIlroy is gearing up for the European Tour's Amgen Irish Open. The tournament will be held from 12 to 15 September at the Championship Course in Royal County Down Golf Club.

Mcllroy has won the Irish Open in 2016. He won by three strokes over Russell Knox and Bradley Dredge. The World No. 3 will look to win his second Irish Open this year. Talking about the tournament, he said, via Irish Independent:

"From an outsider, it probably wouldn't be as meaningful as some of the other wins that I've had. But for me, it would be up there with one of the biggest wins that I've had."

This will be Mcllroy's 23rd start this year. In a recent press conference, he said that he'll have 27 starts this year. He further said:

"I think there's a few things I need to clean up in my game. It's been such a busy year, I haven't been able to work on my swing or my technique a little bit, and I feel like that's deteriorated as I've gone throughout the year."

Mcllroy has had two wins and seven top-10 finishes this year on the PGA Tour. However, he has also narrowly missed out on victories like the 2024 U.S. Open. He seemed confident before the Irish Open and "feel like I'm in pretty good form coming in here."
