Rory McIlroy loses golf ball and club head all in one go at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship- "Didn't know where it went"

Rory McIlroy just finished his first round at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship. On the 12th hole, he hit an aggressive shot and his club head ended up breaking off the shaft.

McIlroy shot a 5-under 67 during the first round of the BMW PGA Championship. Speaking about his freak incident with his clubs, the 35-year-old commented after the round:

"Yeah, I don't think it's ever happened to me before. Obviously a very weird feeling through impact. I looked up and the club head caught my eye instead of the golf ball. So I completely lost where the golf ball was. Didn't know where it went."

Thankfully for Rory McIlroy, he got his club repaired and back in play on the 16th hole of the BMW PGA Championship. McIlroy said that he had a solid start for the day, and his score was a fair reflection of how he played. Further talking about his day, the Northern Irishman said:

"But I was just looking somewhere around the green and saw the ball fall just right of the pin and go up there and go pretty close. Fortunately, it didn't impact the shot too much. But I got it repaired and had it back on 16. Thankfully didn't need it for any of the holes in between."

McIlroy is coming off a close loss at the 2024 Irish Open.
