PGA Tour pair Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler took on the LIV Golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in The Showdown. During the 18-hole contest, there were plenty of candid moments where the golfers were heard talking to each other as they were mic'd up.
Among the standout moments was McIlroy saying he takes 20 grams of creatine every day and called it his hit-it-further juice. While driving towards the 10th hole, McIlroy and Scheffler were heard having a conversation on creatine.
"So, there's a lot of research coming out that it is really good for like mental, Rory said. So I will take 10 grams before I work out and then I will take 10 grams at some other point during the day. It's such a safe like it's one of the most stunning supplements ever," McIlroy said.
Hearing this, the commentators jumped in and questioned what they were talking about.
"Rory is sharing his secrets, whatever he has in there," said Scheffler while taking the creatine bottle.
"It's my hit it further juice," McIlroy said as he stepped out of the golf cart to tee off.
This tournament was seen as a step toward improving relations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League. The two organizations are currently in talks to unite and end the divide that's polarised the golfing world.
The Showdown looked evenly matched initially, but the PGA Tour pair dominated thereafter and did not give any chance for DeChambeau and Koepka to come back into the game.
A look back at Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler's win in The Showdown
PGA Tour pair Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy registered an easy victory over the LIV Golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in The Showdown Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas.
McIlroy and Scheffler got off to a flying start as they won the first two holes of the fourball session. The highlight of the day was the Northern Irish golfer carding an eagle with a long putt to take the PGA Tour duo to three ahead. They never looked back after that and maintained their lead going into the second foursome session.
From holes 7 to 12, the LIV Golf duo managed to square the initial two holes. However, Scheffler and McIlroy won the ninth hole before Koepka made a comeback to give their team hope by making a lengthy putt.
However, the PGA Tour duo won the 12th hole to finish the foursome session with a victory and took a 2-0 lead in the overall session. DeChameabu and Koepka had to win their respective singles matches to conclude The Showdown in a tie, which they couldn't and lost the event.
