Rory McIlroy's incredible 202-yard shot at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open has been honored with a plaque at the venue. The Northern Irish golfer achieved the phenomenal shot with a 2-iron, helping him seize the victory.

This Monday, tournament officials placed a plaque at the venue with Rory McIlroy's name, the tournament's name, and a description of his shot. Nuclr Golf shared the news on its X (formerly Twitter) account with the caption:

"#HISTORY — A plaque was put in place this past Monday to honor Rory McIlroy’s incredible 2-iron from 202 yards, which helped seal last years victory at the @ScottishOpen@TrackingRory."

Rory McIlroy will return to defend his title at the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open this week at The Renaissance Club. Earlier this month, his plane was spotted leaving for the United Kingdom.

McIlroy last played at the 2024 US Open, but a disappointing shot on the final hole cost him the title. He was very close to winning the Major but ended in second place, while LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau emerged victorious.

McIlroy was highly disappointed with his game and immediately left the venue to head back home. He soon after announced his withdrawal from the subsequent Travelers Championship and has not played in Tour events since.

Finally, this week, fans will see him compete against PGA Tour and European Tour players just ahead of the year's final Major - the British Open next week.
