The 2024 PGA Tour season has come to an end, and Rory McIlroy is ready to take a break. McIlroy has played a total of 22 events this year, 20 on the PGA Tour and 2 on the DP World Tour.

With his DP World Tour season yet to come to an end, McIlroy could play as many as 24 to 25 events this year. For the 2025 season, the Northern Irishman could look at reducing his workload by 7 to 9 tournaments. Speaking after the Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy highlighted his plans for the year (via NUCLR Golf, a Golf X Account):

"It's been a long season and I'm going to just have to think about trying to build in a few extra breaks here and there next year and going forward because I felt like I hit a bit of a wall sort of post-US Open and still feel a little bit of that hangover."

He added:

“I'm usually sort of like a 22 (events) sort of person. But again, that was when I was sort of in my 20s and didn't have the responsibilities that I do now. I'm going to try to cut it back to like 18 or 20 a year going forward, I think."

Rory McIlroy tied for 9th place at the end of the FedEx Cup playoffs alongside Shane Lowry and Hideki Matsuyama.
