Rory McIlroy, other TGL stars make their ‘brutal’ pick between Augusta and St. Andrews

Rory McIlroy and other TGL stars, including Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Max Homa, and others, were polled about their preference between two of the best golf courses in the world: St. Andrews and Augusta. The PGA Tour players are gearing up to compete in one of the most anticipated series, TGL, which will have a unique format and will take place on the simulator. The series, originally planned to debut in January 2024, was delayed and will now start in January 2025.

As the series nears its start, TGL recently shared an interesting video of their players making a tough pick between Augusta and St. Andrews. Rory McIlroy picked St. Andrews, while Collin Morikawa called it a "tie." Justin Thomas chose "St. Andrews," and Rickie Fowler said "Augusta."

Max Homa called it "hard" to pick either one.

"Oh, that's hard. Tie. They're so different. I feel like I'm gonna get crucified if I say anything other than Augusta, but I love St Andrews. I might say St Andrews," Homa said (0:05)

Meanwhile, Sahith Theegala called making a choice between the two "brutal."

"That's brutal. I would hate to choose between the two. They're both two bets in the world," Theegala said (0:26)

Notably, Augusta and St. Andrews are two of the best golf courses in the world. Augusta is best known for hosting the Masters, one of the four men's Majors, while St. Andrews is known for hosting DP World Tour events such as the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the St. Andrews Links Trophy. Moreover, it has also hosted The Open Championship, a men's Major.

The last time the Open Championship was held at St. Andrews was in 2022 when Cameron Smith secured a victory. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods has won the Open twice at this iconic golf course, in 2000 and 2005.

Rory McIlroy's TGL series features 24 PGA Tour players, playing in teams of four with six teams in total. Tiger Woods will also be playing in the series, along with other players such as Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Kim, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott.

Notably, the inaugural edition of the TGL will start its first season on January 7, 2025.
