Sahith Theegala announced on Thursday, January 9, that he will be donating to two organizations fighting the fires currently ravaging Los Angeles. The donations will be based on his performance at the 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Theegala announced his decision by posting the following message on his Instagram stories:

"I’ll be donating $100 per birdie and $250 per eagle to these two organizations that are helping with the fire efforts in the LA area. Any little bit helps during this devastating time."

Sahith Theegala also took to Instagram to reveal the two organizations that will receive her donations. They are the American Red Cross and Direct Relief, two organizations that are tasked with helping disaster victims in various ways.

Sahith Theegala was born in Orange, about 30 miles from Los Angeles, and grew up in nearby Chino Hills. He attended Pepperdine University, also in Los Angeles.

The fire currently raging in the Los Angeles area is already considered the worst in the city's history. Numerous images and videos are circulating on social media showing the effects of the fire in areas such as Malibu and Pacific Palisades.

Several golf-related facilities have been threatened by the fire. Most notably, the Riviera Country Club, which is scheduled to receive the Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational in five weeks.

During the 2024 season, Sahith Theegala was well above the PGA Tour average in terms of birdie production. Theegala finished the year tied for 40th on the Tour in birdie average (4.14 per round).

His birdie total was 385, 13th on the PGA Tour, in 93 rounds played as part of the 26 tournaments he played. His greatest productivity was on the par 5s, where he birdied or better 52 percent of the time.

In terms of eagles, Theegala had 10 last season, which ranked 62nd on the PGA Tour. He averaged one eagle every 167 holes played.

Theegala's scoring average was 69.80, good for 63rd on the PGA Tour. However, his performance allowed him to move into the top 50 in the FedEx Cup rankings and 13th in the world.

These rankings put Theegala in prime position to play in all of the PGA Tour's Signature Events in the 2025 season, as well as all four of this year's majors. If he maintains a similar level over the long term, he has a good chance of making the U.S. team for the Ryder Cup.

Theegala is currently ranked 13th in the Ryder Cup standings. However, most of the tournaments that award points have not yet taken place, as they are based on the 2025 calendar.
