Fans on social media have reacted to Scottie Scheffler's sudden withdrawal from the PGA Tour's season-opening 'The Sentry tournament.' The American golfer had an unfortunate accident on Christmas and was forced to withdraw from the competition.
He injured his right palm with broken glass, necessitating surgery to remove the glass fragments which pierced his skin. He is currently recuperating with a minimum of three to four weeks of rest before his return.
Scheffler's manager, Blake Smith, released a statement on the golfer's behalf, informing people about the unfortunate accident. PGA Tour Communications shared his statement on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks," the statement read.

When can Scottie Scheffler return to the PGA Tour?
Scottie Scheffler will likely start his 2025 season at The American Express. The PGA Tour event will take place from January 16 to 19 in La Quinta, California, USA. Notably, he will miss the first two tournaments of the 2025 PGA Tour season.
Scheffler has been phenomenal with his game in 2024, having capped off the season by taking home the PGA Tour Player of the Year title. He started the 2024 season at The Sentry and shot four rounds of 66, 64, 71, and 66, tying for fifth place. He secured nine victories in 2024, including seven on the PGA Tour, defending his title at The Hero World Challenge, and winning The Showdown in a team with Rory McIlroy.
