Scottie Scheffler was the most bet-on player in golf in 2024. During the PGA Tour season, Scheffler had a total of $166.1 million bet on him by the gambling public.

The type of bets wasn't specified, but Scheffler likely made good on a lot of those bets given how successful he was during the season.

Scheffler topped Rory McIlroy, the second-most bet-on player in golf in 2024, by a wide margin. He more than doubled McIlroy's $74 million wager total as the public was enamored by the now two-time Masters champion.

Here's how the rest of the top 10 was gambled on:

  • Xander Schauffele, $63.1 million
  • Max Homa, $61.2 million
  • Ludvig Aberg, $58.2 million
  • Collin Morikawa, $57.2 million
  • Tiger Woods, $46 million
  • Patrick Cantlay, $44.8 million
  • Will Zalatoris, $44.7 million
  • Sahith Theegala, $41.7 million

Scheffler was the Player of the Year in 2024. He earned victory nine times, which includes unofficial events like the Olympics and the Hero World Challenge. He won the Masters, the Players Championship, and four other Signature Events. He also won the Tour Championship.

To top it all off, Scheffler and McIlroy combined to take down Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau at The Showdown, another unofficial match that yielded a win for the world number one.

McIlroy didn't have the same level of success, nor did two-time 2024 Major winner Xander Schauffele, which is why so much more money was bet on the current world number one. In total, there was a lot of money placed on golf, as the top 10 golfers combined to have around $657 million gambled on them this year.

Scheffler said via the Tour website:

“Well, when you put the arrested part in there, it's kind of funny. But no, it's been a crazy year. It's been a lot of fun. I'm not really exactly sure how to describe it, other than it's been a lot of fun.”

Scottie Scheffler said earlier in the season that he tried to be as present as possible, which may have helped him take everything in and do well in the moment:

“I think that was something I really learned from my college coach. At times, early in my college career, I would get distracted. I wouldn't be as focused as I needed to be. I was always putting in the time, but I don't think I was as focused as I needed to be at times practicing."

The American began his dominance with a win at the 2023 Hero World Challenge. With a win at the 2024 event, he could be poised for another huge season.
