Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda added a major US golf award to their outstanding 2024 results on Friday (January 10). Scheffler and Korda were named Players of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA).
The award recognizes the top male and female player each year. It is also presented in the senior category, where South African legend Ernie Els, currently playing on the PGA Tour Champions, was honored.
Scottie Scheffler was adjudged the Player of the Year for the second time in his career. Upon hearing the news, Scheffler had this to say (via the official GWAA website):
"I am extremely honored to be named the GWAA Player of the Year Award for the second time. 2024 was a year I will never forget. From winning my second Players and Masters, to winning Olympic gold, the FedEx Cup, to the birth of my son."
As for Nelly Korda, this is also her second Player of the Year award from the GWAA. These were her words when she heard the news:
"It means a lot to me to win this prestigious award for a second time. I am very grateful to all the writers and journalists that cover our sport. It is always special to be recognized by the Golf Writers Association of America and to be the Player of the Year is a tremendous honor. It is certainly something I am proud of and will look back on in my career."
The three honorees will be recognized at the next GWAA Dinner, held each year at Augusta National Golf Club the day before the start of the Masters Tournament.
Founded in 1946, the GWAA brings together most of the golf media professionals who cover golf in the United States.
