Scottie Scheffler will be withdrawing from the upcoming American Express 2025 owing to his right hand injury. He took to Instagram on Monday (Jan. 6) to announce the news.
Scheffler had not participated in the first event of the PGA Tour calendar, The Sentry in Hawaii either. The World no. 1 will look to return to action at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in January end.
His official statement read: "After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week's American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal. I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 season at the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am."
Scheffler was last seen at 'The Showdown' in December where he and Rory McIlroy won the exhibition contest against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
What happened to Scottie Scheffler?
US golfer Scottie Scheffler injured his right hand while preparing Christmas dinner recently and underwent a surgery for the same. His manager Blake Smith told the PGA Tour about the incident (via CNN):
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery."
At the time it was expected he will "be back to 100% in three to four weeks". It remains to be seen whether Scheffler will open his season at the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The event will take place from January 30th to February 2, 2025 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
Scheffler has enjoyed one of the biggest seasons of his career in 2024. He would be hoping to emulate his success this year as well.
