Scottie Scheffler praised Collin Morikawa for his performance during the third-day matches of the 2024 Presidents Cup. In the morning fourball matches, Morikawa and Scheffler teamed up against Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith.
The USA team led until the 13th hole, but on the 14th, Scott made a birdie, and the teams tied. On the 15th, both players from the International team missed their birdie putts, while Scheffler's ball landed in the water, resulting he ended up making a bogey on the hole.
However, Morikawa's successful putt on that hole helped Team USA maintain the tie, with three more holes left to play. Team USA went on to win the next two holes, with the World No. 1 carding birdies on both. They ultimately won the match 2 & 1.
Following the match, in a post-round press conference, Scottie Scheffler praised Collin Morikawa's play on the 15th hole. Scheffler said (via ASAP Sports):
"I think Captain instilled some confidence in me and Collin to go out and get a point and it wasn't pretty at this today but we did what we needed to do to get the point, and that's what's most important," he said.
"Collin made some key putts there. The putt on 15 was massive. It looked like we had a good chance to go 2-up on 14, and we both missed, and then Adam makes his putt. Then for Collin to step up there on 15 was huge for our team and gave us some good momentum coming down the stretch," Scheffler added.
After Saturday's round of the 2024 Presidents Cup, Team USA regained their lead in the event. They started strong by winning all of their fourball matches on Thursday, but on Friday, the International team made a significant comeback, winning all the foursome matches. However, on Saturday, Team USA won three of the four fourball matches and three of the foursome matches, regaining the lead with a score of 11-7.
