Scottie Scheffler suffered an injury to his right hand in an accident at home on Christmas Day. The injury required surgery and has prompted the world number one to withdraw from The Sentry, the first event of the 2025 season.

The news was released by the PGA Tour Communications X (formerly Twitter) account. A statement from Blake Smith, Scottie Scheffler's manager, was also released, which reads as follows:

"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery."
"He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express."

Scottie Scheffler has never withdrawn after the start of a PGA Tour event since turning professional. His withdrawals have been few and far between and have always come before the start of events. Most notable was his withdrawal from the 2020 US Open for testing positive for Covid-19.

The Sentry will be played January 2-5 at its usual venue, the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. With the withdrawal of Scheffler, World No. 2 Xander Schauffele will be the top-ranked golfer in the field.

The next event on Scheffler's schedule, The American Express, will be played just two weeks after The Sentry, January 16-19. Like every year, this event will be played at the Pete Dye Stadium Course in La Quinta, California.
