Sergio Garcia hasn't qualified for the Open Championship and the next LIV event doesn't start until July 26 in the United Kingdom. As a result of that perhaps, this week Garcia had time to reminisce about his last playoff match at the LIV Golf Andalucia, while his LIV colleagues play at the Open Championship.

A tweet was shared by Garcia on X (formerly Twitter) today. It carried a montage of short video clips from the LIV Golf Andalucia playoff. The post was captioned:

“Playoffs always >”

In the LIV Golf Andalucia playoffs, Garcia was in a tough fight with Anirban Lahiri. After the playoff round, Garcia landed at an even-par and Lahiri was two shots behind.

This year, the Open Championship has allowed 18 LIV golfers including Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Smith, Henrik Stenson, and others. But Garcia wasn't one of them, thus missing the Open Championship for a second time in a row.

The LIV golfer last won a Major in 2017 and his 5 years exemption to the Open field ended in 2022. Also, his world ranking stands at 323 and the Open Championship allows automatic qualification only to the top 50. Therefore, he didn't meet either of these criteria.

Moreover, Garcia didn't finish in the top 30 of the FedEx and the Race to Dubai list last year. As a result, he couldn't make his way into the Open through these either.

How was Sergio Garcia's year at the LIV Golf so far?

Sergio Garcia started his year with LIV Golf Mayakoba, which took place at the El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba. There he ended up as runner-up with 12-under 201. He then played at the LIV Golf Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Country Club, finishing at T27 with 3-under 207.

Next, he played at LIV Golf Jeddah at the Royal Greens G&CC. He stood at T15 with 7-under 203 at Jeddah. His scores over the three days were 67, 71 and 65. In the same month, he played LIV Golf Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Country Club. There he ended up at T38 with 3-under 207.

In April, he played at LIV Golf Miami and LIV Golf Adelaide. At the LIV Golf Miami event, he finished at T2 with 67, 68, and 70 over the three days. His total was 11-under 205. Then, at the LIV Golf Adelaide, he landed at T40 with 6-under 210. His scores were 71, 73, and 66.

Next, he played at LIV Golf Singapore and LIV Golf Houston to finish at T14 and T5, respectively. At LIV Golf Singapore, his score was 8-under 205. At LIV Golf Houston, his score was 11-under 205.

He played next at LIV Golf Nashville, finishing T18, and LIV Golf Andalucia, where he finished in first place. LIV Golf Andalucia is his only win so far this year, with 5-under 208.
