The LPGA has announced that Stacy Lewis will captain the US team for the Solheim Cups 2023 and 2024. Lewis hasn't led the US team until now, but she will be getting two back-to-back events in Spain and Virginia respectively as per LPGA's announcement.
Stacy Lewis will be 38 when the Solehim Cup takes place later this year, making her the youngest captain to lead the US in the tournaments. The record is currently held by Patty Sheehan till now, who was 45 years old when she captained the US team in 2002.
“This is such an amazing honor," said Lewis in a released statement. "To be asked to again captain the U.S. Solheim Cup Team. Receiving the first call was one of the highest points of my career, and I am truly grateful to add this second opportunity.”
Lewis added that it was a true privilege to lead the best players in the country twice. She said that representing the US and wearing the country's colors were significant highlights of every player's career.
Lewis has won 13 times on the LPGA Tour, including two Majors at the 2011 Chevron Championship and the 2013 AIG Women’s Open. She also has a streak of staying in the top 10 for 264 consecutive weeks from 2011-16 including 25 weeks at No. 1.
Apart from this, she also won the LPGA Player of the year twice, in 2012 and 2014. As a player, Lewis has been part of the US team in four Solheim Cup editions (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017).
Prior to Lewis, only four players have captained the US more than once which include Kathy Whitworth (1990, 1992), Judy Rankin (1996, 1998), Patty Sheehan (2002, 2003), and Juli Inkster (2015, 2017, 2019).

The last time the US team won the Solheim Cup was in 2017. Since then, they have been beaten twice by the European team. Stacy Lewis is looking at this as an opportunity to improve. Her tournament record stands at a not-so-impressive 5-10-1.
Last year, the former World No. 1 had expressed her desire to figure out the missing pieces so that the team could do better in the tournament and provide a better experience for the fans.
Team US has a better overall record with 10 victories in comparison to Europe's 7. This time, the former World No. 1 has used the stat system's help to find potential pairings. For this purpose, KPMG has helped her by partnering with the Twenty-First Group and expanding its KPMG Performance Insights program.
Earlier, Lewis held meetings with the statistics teams who had assisted the US men's team (Scouts Consulting Group) and their European counterparts (Twenty-First Group).
