Hideki Matsuyama reflects on his performance at The Sentry
Hideki Matsuyama showcased impressive form throughout The Sentry 2025. He opened the event with a solid round of 8-under 65, making six birdies, a bogey, and an eagle. He followed it up with another round of 8-under 65 in the second round, carding four birdies on the front nine and four on the back nine for a bogey-free round.
On Saturday, Matsuyama delivered a phenomenal performance with another bogey-free round that included 11 birdies. In the final round, he made an eagle on the third hole, followed by a birdie on the fifth. He made seven birdies, an eagle, and one bogey for another 8-under 65.
Following his win, Matsuyama spoke about his performance during a press conference on Sunday, January 5, saying (via ASAP Sports):
"On the 3rd hole, 105 yards, I thought, Oh, I hit a good one. I knew that it was going to be right there for a birdie, but then I heard the crowd, so I knew that it went in. Definitely happy that it did.
"Collin was on in two, so I knew that I needed to get there, he might have made birdie or eagle. So even though I had a two-stroke lead, I knew that I needed to be able to keep going there. I didn't know if the wind was into or with me, so it was a delicate touch shot and I was able to make a great shot there," he added.
Matsuyama secured a three-shot victory over Collin Morikawa. Sungjae Im finished in third place, followed by Jhonattan Vegas in fourth.
