Taylor Pendrith delivered a phenomenal performance during the final round of the 2025 Sentry Tournament, the PGA Tour's season-opening event. The Canadian golfer made headlines by carding an albatross on the par-5 fifth hole, marking the first albatross at The Sentry in Kapalua in nearly three decades.

The PGA Tour Communications shared the exciting news on its X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:

"Taylor Pendrith had an albatross on the par-5 fifth hole from 203 yards, marking the first at The Sentry since the event moved to Kapalua in 1999. It is the 142nd on TOUR since 1983. There were five last season, most recently by Nick Hardy at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship (R2/No. 17)."

The season-opening tournament concluded on Sunday, January 5, at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. Hideki Matsuyama started the season with a brilliant performance, securing a three-stroke victory over Collin Morikawa. Matsuyama shot a final-round 65 to finish the tournament at 35-under par.

It was also a good day for Jhonattan Vegas as well, who shot 66 in the final round and jumped up 11 positions on the leaderboard, settling in solo fourth place. Meanwhile, Ludvig Åberg tied for fifth place with Corey Conners and Thomas Detry.

Taylor Pendrith reflects on his eighth career albatross

While this was Pendrith's first albatross on the PGA Tour, it marked the eighth of his professional career. The Canadian golfer spoke about his albatross over the years, saying (via ASAP Sports):

"That's actually number eight. Which is weird. I've got three hole-in-ones and that's number eight albatross. First one in a tournament. It was pretty cool."

Moreover, he also reflected on his performance saying (via ASAP Sports):

"That's pretty cool, yeah. No, I had a really good number, and was just trying to hit a hard 6-iron and land it kind of front third and let it chase back, and as soon as I hit it I knew it was going to be really good, didn't expect it to go in, didn't see it go in, but the fans that were up by the green went crazy, so, yeah, it was a really good bonus."

Pendrith started his final round on the first hole, making pars on his first two holes before adding a birdie on the third. His standout moment came on the par-5 fifth, where he carded the remarkable albatross. He continued his strong play with a birdie on the eighth hole and back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes.

However, a double bogey on the 17th hole slightly dampened his momentum before he closed with a birdie on the 18th, finishing with a score of 6-under 67. Pendrith ended the tournament at 22-under par, tying for 13th place with Cam Davis.
