TGL to stop play when cutting to commercials, fans to not miss any shots

The TGL is set to kick off on January 7, 2025, with six teams competing over the weekends at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The new tech-infused league is co-owned by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and sports executive Mike McCarley in association with the PGA Tour.

Besides being technology-based, the TGL is bringing several interesting changes. One of the changes is that the play will be paused when the channel cuts into the commercial.

In one of the episodes of the Fore Play podcast, host Frankie Borrelli shed light on the no-play during the commercial aspect of the TGL. He said:

"The other thing that I thought was cool was when they go to a commercial, the play stops, just like when you watch a basketball game. When you watch a basketball game and they go to a commercial, the players are on their bench, talking, drinking water, or chatting with their coach. Then, when the broadcast comes back, the play resumes.

"In golf right now, it's such long form that when they go to a commercial, you miss a couple of shots, you miss the entertainment, and you miss the actual sport happening behind the commercial. It's going to play just like an NFL game, an NBA game, or an MLB game, where there’s a winner, a loser, regulation points, and overtime points, just like hockey. It's great. I think it's going to be awesome."

Who will telecast the TGL?

The TGL will be telecast by ESPN and each match will be played on the weekends on the primetime slot. All the matches will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 and ESPN+ will provide the streaming.
