Tiger Woods is in Oakland Hills this week to support his son Charlie at the US Junior Amateur Championship. A few photos have emerged showing him not wearing the leg sleeve publicly for the first time since the accident.
Tiger had a forgettable week at the Open Championship as he missed the cut. He carded 79 and 77 in the two rounds, missing his third cut in a row. However, he didn't waste much time, flying to Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, ahead of the US Junior Amateur.
On Monday, July 22, NUCLR Golf shared a photograph of Tiger Woods in shorts without a leg sleeve. The image was originally shared by Blake Bunkers Golf on Instagram. In this image, the 15-time Major champion could be seen without a leg sleeve, and marks of injuries were visible on his right leg.
Fans online were stunned to see Tiger's leg, which revealed the severity of the accident. Many praised the veteran for his determination despite the brutal injury. Here's a look at some reactions:
"That looks brutal," one fan wrote.
"Well, that explains a lot," another fan posted.
"guy made 2 masters cuts on that thing..," one user commented.
"was able to speak with a doctor who was consulted on Tigers leg at the PNC Championship 2 years ago. He said if it wasn't Tiger Woods, they would've taken the leg! They flew in every specialist for each part to work on it 😳," one fan opined.
"My goodness that is catastrophic," this user remarked. "You have to be built different to even think about playing a round of golf after that kind of injury. Much less play on the PGA tour!"
"He didn’t wear one on purpose. He knew a picture would get taken. He wants to remind people that it’s not about him being able to make a cut- just being out there after the gruesome accident is a victory in itself," another user posted.
When will Tiger Woods play next on the PGA Tour this season?
Tiger Woods made his fifth start of the year last week at Royal Troon, which is possibly going to be his last appearance in the official PGA Tour event this year. He is not playing in this week's 3M Open and is not expected to play in any of the official tournaments until next year.
Last month, after missing the cut at the US Open, Woods indicated that the Open Championship would be his fifth and last tournament this season.
"I've only got one more tournament this season," he told the media. "I don't think even if I win the British Open I don't think I'll be in the Playoffs. Just one more event and then I'll come back whenever I come back."
However, Tiger Woods might compete at the Hero World Challenge, the unofficial PGA Tour event hosted by the veteran himself. He is also expected to play in the PNC Championship with Charlie later this year.
