Rory McIlroy avoids media following his disheartening final round at 2024 US Open

Following his outing at the 2024 US Open, Rory McIlroy declined to give any media interviews and left the venue immediately. According to Radar Atlas, his private jet departed Pinehurst at 7:29 p.m. ET for his home in Florida.

Rory McIlroy has been playing well this season on the PGA Tour, winning two events earlier this year. However, his struggles in the Majors have persisted. He played at the Masters in 2024 and tied for 22nd place. He finished T12 at the PGA Championship and then second at the 2024 US Open. Interestingly, he also finished second place at last year's US Open.

Rory McIlroy made his debut at the US Open in 2009, tying for tenth place. He won the Major in 2011 but struggled in subsequent outings, missing the cut in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

However, in his last six outings, he has not finished outside the top 10 at the US Open, with two consecutive runner-up finishes. Although McIlroy declined interviews with the media, Bryson DeChambeau, the winner of the 2024 US Open, praised the Northern Irish golfer and said (via ESPN):

"Rory is one of the best to ever play. He'll win multiple more major championships. There's no doubt. I think that fire in him is going to continue to grow."

It is important to note that Rory McIlroy is slated to compete at this week's Travelers Championship, featuring a stellar field of PGA Tour players. Additionally, he will be playing at the final Major of the year, The Open Championship, scheduled to take place next month.
