The American Express 2025 power rankings: Justin Thomas in top three as Xander Schauffele exits

Sunjae Im leads the PGA Tour power rankings for 2025's The American Express. The PGA Tour event will be held at PGA West, Dye Stadium Course in La Quinta, California from Thursday, January 16 to Sunday, January 19, 2025.

The World No. 19 comes to The American Express after a one-week break following The Sentry where he finished third. The South Korean golfer has a terrific record at the tournament with four top-12 and six top-25 finishes in his last six starts.

Last year, Im tied for 25th at the tournament. This year, he has odds of +1400, as per CBS Sports. He has three top-10 and five top-15 finishes in his last five starts. He finished seventh in the FedExCup standings last year.

Sam Burns, who finished 12th in the FedEx Cup standings last year, is second on the list. Burns has two T6 finishes in 2019 and 2024 in his previous four starts at the tournament. Justin Thomas is third on the list after the withdrawal of Xander Schauffele from the event on Monday.

Thomas tied for third at the tournament last year. He had also tied for seventh in 2015. He has two top-five and four top-25 finishes in his previous four starts. He finished 14th in the FedEx Cup standings last year and as per CBS Sports, he has best odds of +1200 at the tournament. In 2024, he had one runner-up, six top-10, and 10 top-25 finishes in 20 starts.

Nico Echavarria is fourth in the PGA Tour power rankings for 2025's The American Express. On January 12, the Colombian player lost the Sony Open in playoffs to a birdie on the second extra playoff hole by Nick Taylor. Echavarria is in terrific shape. In his last six starts on the PGA Tour, he has had one win and two runner-ups. He has odds of +6000 to win the tournament.

Nick Dunlap who won the tournament last year by one stroke over Christiaan Bezuidenhout will look to defend his title. Max Greyserman, Patrick Cantlay, and Adam Hadwin will look to build upon their performances from Kapalua and Waialae at PGA WEST.
