"The art of the clap is gone” – When Tiger Woods complained about fans’ increased use of cellphones while playing at Le Golf National

The first round of the men's golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics concluded on Thursday, August 1 at Le Golf National. The course is 71 par and 7174 yards for the men's event.

The atmosphere at the course was sensational in the first round. The highlight was the massive grandstand at Le Golf National's first tee as players received enormous support from the crowd.

Talking about the fan support, World No. 3 Mcllroy said (via Olympic Golf on X):

"Unbelievable. It was surprising. With so many events going on spread all across the city, for people to venture out here and to watch us play, it was a really cool atmosphere to play in."

However, about six years ago, Tiger Woods had complained about fans' increased use of cell phones. Woods was competing in the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National. Woods said (via SportStar):

"The art of the clap is gone. People don't clap because how can you clap when you have a cell phone in your hand? People are now screaming and they are pretty loud, and especially late in the day when it's hot and they have tipped back a few, it gets even louder."

USA lost the 2018 Ryder Cup to Europe by a huge margin of 17.5-10.5. Tiger Woods's record at the tournament was 0-4-0 with one loss in both Singles and Foursomes each, and two losses in Fourballs.
