The Open amateur Luis Masaveu will have a 7-time DP World Tour winner as his caddie for the 2024 Major

Amateur Luis Masaveu is set to compete at the Open Championship this week. While this will be a relatively new experience for him, he will be accompanied by a seven-time DP World Tour winner as his caddie.

The Open Championship is scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 18, to Sunday, July 21 at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. Luis Masaveu secured one of the 12 amateur spots in this week's field after earning his place through final qualifying earlier this month.

The young Spaniard will have veteran compatriot Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño carrying his bag. Interestingly, Castaño also serves as the national coach of Spain. He brings extensive experience with seven wins on the DP World Tour and a top-10 finish at the US Open. Additionally, he has made four cuts in his seven appearances at the Open Championship.

Luis Masaveu clinched his spot with a victory in a three-way playoff at Royal Cinque Ports, overcoming South Africa’s Branden Grace among others to qualify for the Open. He has represented Spain twice in the Eisenhower Trophy World Championships and claimed the Portuguese Amateur title earlier this year. Moreover, he reached the final of the Spanish Amateur Championship.
