Byeong Hun An was pessimistic about scratch golfers' scores at the PGA Tour's Creator Classic. The first edition of the PGA Tour's Creator Classic concluded on Wednesday, August 28, at East Lake Golf Club.
Ahead of the event, professional PGA Tour golfers, including Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland, Byeong Hun An, and Ludvig Aberg, predicted the scores of the Creator Classic players.
Byeong Hun An expressed a pessimistic outlook, stating that the scratch golfers might struggle to score even or under par. He explained that the greens at East Lake Golf Club are "tricky," which could pose a challenge for the players.
"I mean, there's no chance they'll break even (par). That's for sure.," An said (via PGA Tour on X). They're kind of tricky greens. You know, it's got undulations here and there. And you can't really run up to some of the holes because there's bunkers in front of the greens. I don't know how good they are, but I know no one is shooting under par for nine holes. I mean, if they do, then they should be playing the Tour, but , yeah , they'll have fun."
Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele noted that the scores would depend on "how high they hit the ball."
"Depending on sort of how high they hit the ball, and if they're coming from the fairway or not, is going to really determine their success. It's the same for us," Schauffele said.
Ludvig Aberg said:
"From what I've heard, it would be unbelievable if they shot in the 90s, I think."
Viktor Hovland also commented on the scratch players' performance, admitting that it would be tough to play at the venue.
"If this was last year, what the golf course used to be, I think it'd be more manageable for them. They probably still wouldn't play very good, but, I think you couldn't make too big of a fool out of yourself, if you were a decent golfer. But now, just looking at green complexes, seeing how firm the greens are. Certain runoffs. I mean, you could spend some time around some of those greens," Hovland said.
The 2024 Creator Classic featured 16 content creators who played on eight holes in a gross play format, followed by a final hole playoff for the top four finishers.
