PGA Tour player Michael Kim recently reflected on the course changes at the WWT Championship. The sixth tournament of the 2024 FedExCup Fall schedule is being held at the El Cardonal golf course in Los Cabos. The first round concluded on Thursday, November 7.

Kim started the round on the back nine and scored three bogeys on the 12th, 13th and 15th holes. He followed it with four birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th holes on the front nine. He finished the round with a score of 1-under 71. Kim is currently tied for 39th.

After the round, the 31-year-old deliberated on the difficulty of par-4 fourth which is 480 yards at the Tiger Woods-designed course. He said that the hole was moved up about 15 yards closer to the green. Despite that, he used both his driver and 3-wood but barely reached the middle of the green.

He took to X and wrote:

"I'm just above average on tour in driving distance. The 4th hole here is 480 and they moved us up about 15 yards from the back of the box. It was blowing hard into us; I had to hit Driver, 3wd to barely make it to the middle of the green. Hadn’t had to do that in a while."

Michael Kim further said that the fourth hole has a false front, a sloped area at the front of the green which caused the ball to roll back.

"There’s def going to be guys that don’t reach the par 4 in 2 because there’s a big false front as well," he added.

He made a par on the hole. Kim is positioned 115th on the FedExCup standings. He'd look to improve his standings at the WWT Championship to secure his PGA Tour card with two events to go in the FedExCup Fall schedule.

Michael Kim will tee off at 8:41 a.m. ET with Sam Stevens and Will Gordon in the second round of the WWT Championship.

Michael Kim reveals his choice for the "Player of the Year" award

Michael Kim recently reflected on his choice for the PGA Tour's Player of the Year award. Kim said that he would be voting for World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. He took to X and wrote:

"These are crazy times and every vote counts! I really need to back my candidate so that the right person wins. I have a vote and will use it! I’m living in Texas but grew up in San Diego so I feel no allegiance."

The Player of the Year is determined by the vote of PGA Tour players. Michael Kim humorously remarked that Scheffler's going to jail won't affect his decision:

"I'm voting for Scottie Scheffler as pgatour POY. Yes Xander has two majors but Scottie won the Masters, Players, 4 signature events, and the Olympics which were all tournaments that Xander also competed in. Scottie has the H2H by a wide margin. He might have gone to jail but that won’t stop me from voting for him!"

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele have had an amazing 2024 season. Scheffler has had eight wins including the 2024 Paris Olympics men's golf competition while Schauffele has had two wins both Majors.
