The World Wide Technology Championship will be played in Cabo after Mayakoba hosts the first event of the LIV Golf League 2023. As per GolfWeek's report, the PGA Tour World Wide Technology Championship will not return to Mayakoba, which has hosted the tournament for sixteen years.
As per various sources, the move will most likely get the nod at the Tour's board meeting scheduled for Monday in Orlando ahead of the next PGA Tour event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The tournament is set to be hosted at Diamante's El Cardonal, the maiden course designed by Tiger Woods. The Cabo San Lucas timeshare community, located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, boasts a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean.
Woods' role in the WWTC event is still not known. He already hosts two events, the Genesis Invitational and Hero World Challenge, which will have at the WWTC event.
In the past, the World Wide Technologies Championship was organized at El Camaleon Golf Club south of Cancun in Mexico's Riviera Maya. However, they recently decided to stage the inaugural LIV Golf event and are now hosting the inaugural event of the upstart league's second season this week.
RLH Properties own the Mayakoba resort. Borja Escalada, the CEO of RLH Properties, said they would like to host the events with PGA and LIV to help "build a bridge" between the rival circuits. However, the PGA Tour's tournament director felt otherwise wise:
“More like they burned a bridge with the PGA Tour, who won’t be back.”
Jason Kokrak and Paul Casey tied at the top after the first round of the LIV Golf opener in Mayakoba

Paul Casey leads the table after the first round of golf at Mayakoba. He birdied his last three holes to pose a 6-under 65, sharing the lead with Jason Kokrak on Friday.
Casey was five under after ten holes but then posted a double bogey on the next hole. However, he returned with straight birdies on the final three holes at the El Camaleon golf course. Kokrak had a decent bogey-free first round with one chip-in birdie.
Talor Gooch, Peter Uihlein, and Carlos Ortiz are at the runner-up position with two strokes behind in the 54-hole event.
First-season winner Dustin Johnson shot two straight bogeys and had to settle for a score of 3-under 68. Casey is in team Crushers.
Pieters started with a 76, and one of the new entrants could break par. Danny Lee scored 71. Phil Mickelson started well with three straight birdies but eventually settled for 72.
The event is being telecast on the Nexstar-owned CW in the United States. Fans outside the US can enjoy coverage on LivGolfplus.com and the LIVGolfplus app, available on the Play store and Apple store.
These events are barred from ranking points as the LIV players face bans from the PGA Tour.
