Jon Rahm quashed the rumors which suggested that he regretted joining LIV Golf. The LIV Golf is currently competing at LIV Golf Greenbrier from August 16 to 18 at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Rahm joined LIV Golf at the beginning of the 2024 season. On August 13, a Golf Digest article by Jaime Diaz quoted a 'Veteran Tour Insider', who claimed that Rahm was regretting joining the Saudi-backed tour.
The insider said (via Golf Digest):
"I am 100 percent positive that if Jon could give the money back to the Saudis and come back to the tour, he couldn’t write the check fast enough. Now there are only four times a year when he’s playing that anybody is remotely interested. He thought his stature in the game was secure no matter where he was playing, and it was a bad miscalculation."
During the rain delay at LIV Golf Greenbrier, the aforementioned quote from 'Veteran Tour Insider' was shown to Rahm by podcaster Jay Aaron, who also goes by the X username, "Pro Golf Critic". In response to the tweet, the Spanish golfer said,
"Yea thats why I can’t stop smiling out here. They just make sh** up. Couldn’t be further from the truth," Rahm said.
Rahm carded 6-under 64 in the first round of LIV Golf Greenbrier. He notched four birdies on the 1st, 4th, 8th, and 18th holes and an eagle on par-5 12th. He is tied for fourth with Matt Jones, Brooks Koepka, and Richard Bland. Talor Gooch, Jason Kokrak, and Sebastian Munoz are tied for first, scoring 7-under 63.
