The PGA Tour has introduced a new interview style at the Sanderson Farms Championship. On Thursday, October 3, the players were interviewed while the opening round was underway.
The PGA Tour returned to a 72-hole stroke play format after two weeks with the Sanderson Farms Championship. At the second event of the FedEx Fall, the PGA Tour tried to do something innovative to gain in-round insight from the players.
On Thursday, the Tour conducted in-round interviews with a few players, including Rickie Fowler and rookie Matt McCarty.
However, the PGA Tour's new attempt received mixed reactions from the fans. While some fans liked the style, many were quite critical of it. Here's a look at some of the reactions:
"This is awful," one fan posted.
"Nobody wants this," another fan wrote.
"How is this different than the 'walk and talks' They’ve been doing on weekends for a couple years?" this fan commented.
"What insightful info does anyone really get talking to competitors in the middle of their contests? I’m over it," another user remarked.
"This initiative couldn’t be more embarrassing," one fan opined.
"This is stupid, this isn’t the way," another fan posted.
Davis Skinns shoots personal best on PGA Tour in Round 1 of Sanderson Farms Championship
Davis Skinns shot a personal best 12-under 60 in the opening round of the Sanderson Farms Championship. While this was a course record, it could have been even better had he not missed a birdie putt from inside 10 feet on the par-4 9th, his final hole of the day.
Despite a little disappointment, the 42-year-old Englishman still holds a three-stroke lead after the first round. Michael Thorbjornsen shot a bogey-free 63 in the opening round.
The Sanderson Farms Championship is the second of the eight FedEx Fall events. These events are crucial for players who hadn't qualified for the playoffs, as only the top 125 players will keep their Tour cards for next season. Skinns is currently 108th in the standings, while Thorbjornsen is 137th.
Gary Woodland and Ben Griffin are tied for third at 8-under. Patton Kizzire, Mackenzie Hughes, Bill Haas, Chandler Phillips, Jacob Bridgeman, Daniel Berger, Lucas Glover, Beau Hossler, and Paul Barjon are in a nine-way tie for fifth place.
