Fans on social media have reacted to the exclusive first look at the SoFi Center where the upcoming golf league TGL will be held. The venue will host the inaugural season of the tech-infused league, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, starting from January 7.
The SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida boasts a 3,400-square-foot screen and can host 1500 spectators. As per the league's format, six teams consisting of four PGA Tour players will compete against each other.
On November 14, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay shared the first look at the SoFi centre. In the video, Thomas was seen hitting drives against a virtual backdrop while Cantlay was seen putting down the simulated fairway.
NUCLRGOLF shared details with a video of the SoFi centre on its X account.
However, the first look received mixed reactions from fans. Some were disappointed with the advanced setup merging technology with traditional golf.
"Nah, I'd rather watch Bryson's Youtube channel," a fan commented.
"This is embarrassing," a fan jotted.
"Sounds like it would have little spectator value," another fan wrote.
Meanwhile, some were appreciative of the golf league.
"Will be a huge hit early because of curiosity! Longevity I’m not sure," a fan wrote.
"Gotta be better than LIV," a fan wrote.
"This on at night during prime time during the week will be fire," another fan commented.
The league will have 15 regular-season matches. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals and a best-of-three finals series will be held to determine the champion.
TGL signs a deal with electronics giant Best Buy
Tomorrow's Golf League has also announced that electronics giant Best Buy will be its third founding partner. The league, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, has two other founding partners, Genesis and Businessolver.
Chief Marketing Officer at Best Buy, Jennie Weber said (via TGL Golf):
"We know better than anyone how technology can help people take what they care about most to the next level, and for many, golf is that huge moment in their lives – whether they’re competing on the course or tuning in at home to follow their favorite players."
"We're excited to partner with TGL to help bring to life an exciting and innovative experience for sports fans and show them how tech can enhance the game they love."
Through the deal with TGL, Best Buy will feature in national ad spots, in-game branding, stadium events and digital content. As per Forbes, TGL's exclusive Founding Partner deals are estimated at $5 to $8 million annually.
