Tyrrell Hatton's performance at the 2024 Open Championship at the Royal Troon was poor by his previous standards. He struggled a lot with his game but made headlines for carrying his bag in the second round of the Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club.

Despite having a caddie, Hatton was seen carrying his golf bag on the 12th hole. He said he 'deserved this' after playing a poor tee shot on the previous hole.

"After that tee shot on 11, this is what I deserve," he told on-course reporter Curt Byrum.

Hatton also apparently told his caddie after his tee shot off the 11th that he didn't "deserve to have someone carry his bag for him". According to a tweet posted by golf journalist Shane Bacon on X(formerly twitter):

Pretty great Tyrrell Hatton update just now from @KStupples... Hatton was carrying his bags down the 12th hole and told her that he hit his tee shot so bad he told his caddie he didn't deserve to have someone carry his bag for him. Only Tyrrell!

Hatton's tee shot on the 11th hole went into the bushes on the right side of the fairway. He decided to take a provisional, but unfortunately, this shot went into the native area with thick grass. Thankfully, Hatton found the ball from his first tee shot and took a penalty drop outside the bushes.

Hence, as an apparent self-ordained punishment for playing a poor tee shot, Hatton carried his bag down the 12th fairway. Interestingly, despite this errant tee shot, Hatton made a bogey on the 11th hole as he recovered well with his approach shot and carded a 5 on the 488-yard par-4.

Did Tyrrell Hatton make the cut at the 2024 Open Championship?

No, Tyrrell Hatton failed to make the cut at the 2024 Open Championship, as he carded +8 for the event. The cut line came in at +6, and he failed to make it to the weekend by two strokes.

The LIV Golfer had a decent start to the final major championship of the year as he carded just two bogeys and 16 pars on day one. He remained +2 for the event going into the second round and looked all set to make it to the weekend.

He started his second round on a decent note as he remained even par for the day on the front nine. However, the errant tee shot on the 11th hole seems to have derailed his confidence, as he couldn't get back his form and struggled to make pars.

He carded four bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine with no birdies to compensate. Hence, he remained six over on the back nine, carding +6 for the day and +8 for the event, and missed the cut by two strokes.

As we head into the moving day, Shane Lowry leads the tournament with a score of -7. Daniel Brown and Justin Rose are chasing the Irish golfer as they remain two strokes behind him at -5. However, it will be interesting to see how these golfers approach their play as the wind seems to be calmer compared to the first couple of rounds.
