"This weird sense of emptiness": When Nelly Korda described what winning feels like

Nelly Korda had the best season of the last decade on the LPGA Tour in 2024. No player had won seven times in a single season since Yani Tseng in 2011.

Such success prompted Nelly Korda to reflect on what it's like to win in professional golf. Speaking with Golf.com's Claire Rogers in January this year, Korda called it a "strange rush of emotion.

Speaking via The Scoop on Youtube, Nelly Korda said:

"There's just like a weird rush of emotions that you have when you're on the last nine holes coming down the stretch, that when you don't have those emotions... you have such a weird low, like, you feel sick. It's so weird, you're not hungry, you're not even sleepy, but you're tired," she said [13:13 onwards].

Talking about the adrenaline rush fading away, Korda added:

"You just feel so weird, because the adrenaline has just left your body and you're just stuck with this weird sense of emptiness in a sense, because you were just feeling for the past two, three hours, this massive rush of emotions, adrenaline."

In the same interview, Nelly Korda also opened up on how she likes to celebrate her victories:

"I would say the one way I celebrate a win is, I get into bed, I just turn off my phone and just try to replay the day. Usually it's really bad [night of sleep], it's like I wake up and I'm like 'whoa.' I feel like I've been hit by a car, it's like such a strange feeling, but it's the most amazing feeling as well."

Before beginning her professional career in 2016, Korda had a brief but distinguished amateur career. Her successes included qualifying and making the cut at the 2013 US Women's Open, a month before her 15th birthday.
