Justin Thomas played the first two rounds of The Sentry 2025 in one of the featured groups on the television broadcast. During both rounds, he was interviewed by the on-course reporter, which led to a hilarious situation during one of the interviews.
Thomas had just finished the third hole of the first round, where he carded a triple bogey, which was to be the deciding factor in his poor score for the day. Discussing the matter with Golf Channel's Todd Lewis, the following dialogue ensued:
Justin Thomas: "By the way, can we do this on a downhill hole the next time?"
Todd Lewis: "Yeah, seriously. I've been asking our producer, Tommy Roy, the same thing."
JT: "Dang, Tommy. Throw us a bone!" [0:02 and onwards]
Justin Thomas is known for his sense of humor and it is common to see him having fun with other players. His interactions with Tiger Woods are especially notorious, as they usually result in hilarious situations.
Such was the case when Tiger Woods playfully punched and kicked Justin Thomas' bag during a practice session at the 2024 PGA Championship. Another moment was at The Match in 2022, when Thomas joked that Woods' generation belonged to "the 50s."
A look at Justin Thomas' performance at The Sentry 2025
A triple bogey on the third hole of the first round had a significant impact on Justin Thomas' score, who carded seven birdies and two bogeys for the remainder of the round. Thomas sent his tee shot into the native area to the right of the 3rd fairway and had to take a penalty stroke, which was only the beginning of his problems.
His second tee shot (third shot) hit the fairway and the ball was 165 yards from the pin, but he was unable to reach the green with his fourth shot. Thomas tried to chip in for bogey, but the ball finished only 3 feet from the hole. Things got worse when he missed the putt for double bogey and had to sign for triple bogey.
Something similar happened in the second round, this time on the fourth hole, where he made a double bogey. Thomas had five birdies and one bogey for the rest of the round. His score for the day was the same as the day before, 2 over.
With this performance, Thomas is tied for 44th place, 14 places behind his first day's finish. At 4-under, he is 12 shots behind the 36-hole leader, Hideki Matsuyama.
Thomas has played in eight editions of The Sentry. He has won twice (2017, 2020) and finished in the top 5 three other times (2019, 2021, 2022). His worst finish to date was a tie for 25th in 2023.
