Paige Spiranac and journalist Kyle Porter recently engaged in a war of words on X (previously Twitter). The golf instructor-cum social media personality was involved in a debate with the journalist over the YouTube golf vs pro golf topic.
Spiranac and Porter's verbal battle started shortly after the latter claimed that YouTube golf has more entertaining elements. The American model claimed that excessive "division" in the game is allowing golf media personalities to gain more attention. According to Paige Spinarac, "Professional golf will always be king."
Porter responded to Spiranac’s tweet and claimed that Tiger Woods' dominance took pro golf and the PGA Tour to new heights and value. He wrote:
"No, attention will always be king. The Tour got to a place where a $12B valuation seemed reasonable in part because Tiger created a bubble. To make the value keep going up and to the right, many changes need to be brought about. I’m just not sure anyone is willing to make them.
As reported by Golf.com, the PGA Tour reached a valuation of $12.3 billion in April 2024. Paige Spiranac expressed her opinion only when Porter spoke about his concerns about the current state, where the PGA Tour is reportedly drawing fewer numbers. According to him, it is more entertaining to watch your favorite YouTube golfers play on "fascinating courses". Paige Spiranac just had a different viewpoint from the founder of Normal Sport.
Their brawl turned bitter when the analyst disagreed with her sentiments about professional golf. Later, she pointed out that although YouTube and pro golf are separate entities, they can improve the sport by working together.
Paige Spiranac expresses her concern about the current state of the PGA Tour
Being a YouTuber herself, Spiranac is a golf content creator as well as a professional golf instructor. The 31-year-old social media personality has been a golf content creator for almost a decade now. Her YouTube channel has around 437k subscribers and she has four million followers on her official Instagram account.
Spiranac addressed the issue that has divided the fans of the sport. According to her, the arrival of the Saudi PIF-backed LIV Golf League has created a bifurcation. However, that division was much needed, since it was instrumental in making the "golf media explode".
In a tweet, Paige Spiranac expressed her thoughts amidst the ongoing debate:
"I’ve been doing golf content creation for 10 years now. During that time I’ve seen golf media explode within the last couple years. It started because of the division between LIV and the PGAT. People wanted to watch golf that was fun, entertaining and pure."
"But the recent commentary about YouTube golf vs pro golf is only going to cause more division and animosity which golf can’t afford right now. They are two separate entities and it’s mutually beneficial to work together to reach more eyeballs."
Paige Spiranac was a former professional golfer. She also pointed out an issue in the PGA Tour's pace. At the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open, Harris English and his squad took 5 hours and 29 minutes to complete.
Shortly after the match, a CBS reporter commented on the slow play and said "just gotta be better". Spiranac wants the PGA Tour to bring young talents into broadcasting, reduce commercials, and most importantly, work on the pace of the match.
