After missing the cut at the Open Championship, Tiger Woods has reached Oakland Hills to support his son Charlie at the 2024 US Junior Amateur. The tournament will be held from July 22 to 27 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan.
Tiger Woods was spotted wearing shorts on the golf course, breaking his own outfit rule. The video of him wearing shorts was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Fore Play. It captioned the post:
"TIGER IN SHORTS WITH NO LEG SLEEVE?!"
The legendary golfer usually goes with the traditional attire of wearing long pants on the course, even in hot weather. Wood's iconic look features his signature red shirt and black pants and has become his trademark.
Earlier, the PGA Tour guidelines didn't allow golfers to wear shorts on golf courses. However, the rule was amended in 2019 when golfers were allowed to wear tailored, knee-length shorts during practice and pro-am rounds.
In 1999, caddies were allowed to wear shorts for the first time on golf courses. Incidentally, Tiger Woods had a big part to play in it. In 1999, Tiger Woods and David Duval were competing in a Showdown at Sherwood. However, both their then-caddies, Steve Williams and Mitch Knox, wore shorts to the golf course because the temperature was 91 degrees.
The rules official asked Wood's caddie to wear pants or he'll not be allowed to play on the PGA Tour. Woods intervened and said (via ESPN):
"Guess I'll be playing in Europe."
Williams wore shorts throughout the event. In contrast, the LIV Golf allows golfers to wear shorts on the golf course during events.
