Tiger Woods failed to make it to the weekend at the 2024 Open Championship, leaving fans disappointed. But Woods has given fans something to cheer about as he confirmed his spot for the 2025 Open Championship at Port Rush.
During the post-round media interaction, a journalist questioned Woods if he would compete next year at Port Rush. Woods couldn't register what Port Rush was for a moment but immediately answered that he would definitely compete next year and apologized for not grasping immediately.
"Portrush? Is that the next year's Open? Oh yeah, definitely. Okay, I am like, oh, sorry. That's a year away. Yeah, yeah, no, sorry," Woods answered.
The 2025 Open Championship will move to Northern Ireland after several events in Scotland and England. Northern Ireland will host the Open Championship for the first time since 2019. The Portrush Golf Course is one of the most challenging golf courses, comprising Dunluce Links and Valley Links.
How did Tiger Woods perform at the 2024 Open Championship?
Tiger Woods is battling injuries and is trying his best to recover and gain full strength. Since last year, Woods has been competing only in the Major Championships as he still doesn't have the stamina to compete on the PGA Tour.
Woods was not one of the favorites coming into the 2024 Open Championship, as his performance in the previous Majors has been disappointing this year. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and the US Open, while finishing 60th at the Masters.
Woods began his campaign on a high with two pars and a birdie on the first three holes on day one. Unfortunately, he never got going after that, as he carded a bogey and a double bogey on the next couple of holes and eventually carded +8 for the day.
It was clear after round one that only a miracle would have taken Woods into the weekend this week. Unfortunately, he carded +6 on day two and remained +14 for the event. Currently, he is placed at 149th spot among 154 golfers and will miss the cut by a fair margin.
Irish golfer Shane Lowry leads the event with a score of -7, while Daniel Brown is behind him at -5. English golfer Justin Rose is moving up as he is -3 for the event and has played 13 holes so far. Even though the second round is underway, only 11 golfers are under par for the event.
