Tiger Woods is not in the feature coverage for the Open Championship, Round 2. His group has been replaced by Bryson DeChambeau's as the first featured group of Friday's afternoon session.
Tiger Woods is in Royal Troon this week for his 23rd appearance at the Open Championship. However, the start of the tournament didn't go as planned as he shot 8-over 79 on Thursday, July 18. His round featured just two birdies while he bogeyed six holes and also sank two double bogeys.
The featured groups for the second round of the Open Championship were announced and surprisingly Tiger featured in none of them.
Fans online had mixed reactions to the announcement. Some believed it was unfair to Tiger Woods, as he is still the most popular face in professional golf. However, many also thought that his time was up and it was only appropriate to replace him with a better-performing player's group. Here's a look at some of the reactions:
"Tiger deserves lifetime coverage," one fan wrote. "He’s a legend. I don’t care if he shoots a 106, I still want to watch him play"
"It's about time," another fan posted.
"Not snubbing, but moving to a better group with Lowry who is in the lead," this fan remarked.
"Not sure what took so long, is there anyone that enjoys watching him scramble to save bogeys? The circle of tiger hype each week for majors is right on track. Pre-tourney iron flushing, reports of his health being better, hype, to missing the cut, again 😂," this fan commented
"Great move. Unfortunately watching the 🐐limping around the course playing very little if any top quality shots is not pleasant viewing. Its not just the 79 its his form in general since his masters win and his constant scowl..," one fan wrote.
"damn the open really been pi****g on his legacy," another fan opined. "First the snide comments about how he must be on so many pain killers now they’re putting him off of a featured group. pretty wild behavior from a man who helped build the PGA to what it is today."
